Really shows how the US is more show(y) and less substance.. and artists usually roll with that tide. When I lived near Frankfurt and would attend (classical) concerts at the Alte Oper, I observed the audiences being far more discerning towards the performers and far less eager (vs. more easily excitable American audiences) to give standing ovations. Of course, there always exist those audience members who would never, ever give a standing O, just to appear like a hochnasig König(in). ;-P
