I guess like in any language, there are a lot of ways to thank people. I just happen to think that one of them in German is really weird.
There's the basic thank you: "Danke schön," the "I thank you" ("Ich danke dir"), and the one that can only be semi-translated as "I thank myself" ("Ich bedanke mich"), even though it means that you're thanking others. I don't get it.

I'm not sure but I think "Ich bedanke mich" originates in "sich bei jemandem bedanken"... Using it right this would mean we ahve to say: "Ich bedanke mich bei dir." I believe we just left out the "bei dir" eventually.
Do you know what I mean? Grammar isn't my strong side at all...

Hey thanks for reading my blog! I did tell my German students about the segregation. They thought it was funny and felt silly they never realized it. I told them on April Fools day so it was good timing.

Yes Russia...our husbands were worried we would be kidnapped. but Greece was worth it. I'm pretty sure Julie knows I have the picture.
