*Guten Rutsch!*

In Germany, people don't say "Happy New Year," they literally say, "Good slide into the new year."

Cool.

That might sound a bit crazy, but...

This saying actually was inspired by the jewish wish for their holiday "Rosh ha Shana"

(which is the new year's beginnin in the yewish calendar).

"Rosh" sounds like "Rutsch" (slide) for the Germans, so they made "Guten Rutsch!" out of it :)
